Mastodon's second full-length release, Leviathan, is a concept album based on the novel Moby-Dick by Herman Melville. The band's 2002 debut album, Remission, garnered significant critical acclaim for its unique sound. Mastodon has released eight studio albums, as well as a number of other releases. Formed in 2000, the band's lineup of Troy Sanders (bass/vocals), Brent Hinds (lead guitar/vocals), Bill Kelliher (rhythm guitar/backing vocals), and Brann Dailor (drums/vocals) has remained the same since 2001. The gorgeous backdrop, sunset, and rocky formation in the beginning immediately grab your attention before the camera swings around to reveal the bloody body laying on the beach, but if you look closely, it's actually visible from the opening frame (see our teaser image above). Sound familiar? Yes, there's definitely a Mystic River vibe going on here, as the "clash of past and present" finally allows the two men to come to grips with what happened on that fateful day. When something terrible happens to Dan, the two other friends separate and are reunited ten years later, only to discover they couldn't be more different.
